A party of 48 people from Rye made a visit to the battlefields and memorials of the Somme on 20 September 2007. Many were Royal British legion members who wre joined by Rye Town Councillors Sam Souster and Frank Palmer. Anthony Kimber, President of Rye British Legion said : ‘We traced the path of the 11th Batalion Royal Sussex in which served some Rye men who fell during the four months of the Somme Battle and we layed wreaths where Rye men were listed aaaat Pozieres and Thiepval.’
